Earn your teaching credential and a master’s degree

At Mount Saint Mary’s University, students who pursue a preliminary teaching credential receive both a master of science in education degree and their credential; students can also pursue more than one credential at the same time.

Master’s in Education and California Teaching Credentials

These graduate programs are designed for aspiring teachers who want to earn and/or clear their California preliminary teaching credentials while pursuing a Master of Science in Education degree.

Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential

The Multiple Subject Credential program prepares students to teach all subject areas at the Elementary level (TK-6th).

Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential – Residency Program

Our Teacher Residency program with New Heights Charters is an innovative and accelerated program centered around a year-long student-teaching placement.

Preliminary Single Subject Credential

The Single Subject Credential program prepares students to teach at the Secondary level (6th-12th) or teach one subject matter across all levels (TK-12).

Special Education Credential: Mild/Moderate Disabilities

The Special Education Credential in Mild to Moderate Disabilities prepares students to become licensed special education teachers in the state of California.

Special Education Credential: Deaf & Hard of Hearing

The Special Education Credential in Deaf and Hard of Hearing prepares students to provide educational instruction to children with hearing loss and their families.

Need to clear your preliminary teaching credential?

We offer a one or two-year Induction program based on your teaching experience. Students also have the opportunity to concurrently enroll in the Instructional Leadership (IL) or Individually Designed Program (IDP) and the Induction program to clear their credentials.
