Preparing fearless visionaries

CSJ Oral History Project

A collaboration between the CSJ Institute, Film & Television, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Los Angeles Province

Our Founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, continue to show us what it means to serve the dear neighbor and respond to the needs of the times. In an effort to preserve their history, lift up their achievements, and inspire our vision of the future, Mount Saint Mary’s University is capturing the spirit and contributions of our sisters on film. Nearly 70 sisters have been interviewed thus far.

Film footage is used to produce short educational and inspirational videos for use by the Mount community and our partners. If you would like to obtain transcripts of the interviews for qualitative research purposes, please鈥痗ontact CSJ Institute Senior Director Shannon Green 鈥痑t sgreen@msmu.edu.

We are grateful to the sisters for their generosity in sharing their wisdom and joy with us. Archival support is received from the library, archives of the CSJs of Los Angeles, and individual sisters. Filming is temporarily paused due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Vision and courage: the history of the Sisters of St. Joseph

Our CSJ story begins with just six women in 1650 Le Puy, France, who were called to serve as women religious in unprecedented ways. In addition to our interviews with our sisters, we have also recorded a series of videos focusing on our beginnings in France, along with other notable moments in our history. These videos give us a deeper understanding of our foundations and how our sisters have continuously responded to the needs of the times in a changing world.

Deepening the CSJ experience

Our resources

The CSJ Institute is committed to providing Mount Saint Mary’s and our CSJ partners with quality resources to deepen the experience of our mission and charism.

We do this through a variety of ways including presentations on the history of our Founders, opportunities for reflection and spiritual formation such as retreats, and creating new and enriching content on our social media platforms.

If you are looking for additional resources or presenters, please contact Shannon Green.
