Global Programs
A world of opportunities
At Mount Saint Mary’s University, we believe that to succeed in today’s world, our students need to practice the skills necessary for living and working in a larger global community.
Engaging our students in international research, service learning and internships abroad is at the core of the Center for Global Initiatives’ mission.
Research shows that international student programs increase cultural understanding, improve students’ academic performance and language skills, and make them more attractive to employers due to their cross-cultural exposure in a global economy.
The Center serves as a hub for our students looking for international research experiences or service opportunities abroad. Our partner organizations and faculty-led programs are here to help students launch their international learning experiences.
Global Women in STEM and Policy undergraduate research program
GWSTEM: Breaking BarriersThe Global Women in STEM and Policy undergraduate research training honors program trains cohorts of undergraduate women to conduct basic and applied research in both the sciences and social sciences, with a focus on global and interdisciplinary approaches. It also includes a robust women’s leadership component.
Designed by Mount Saint Mary’s University faculty, GWSTEM is open to students majoring in biology, chemistry, political science, healthcare policy and global politics. Accepted students form a cohort and engage in a three-semester, cross-discipline experience that culminates in a summer of global field research. This program reflects the Mount’s strategic mission to empower women, engage in a global environment and increase undergraduate research opportunities.
