Bernadette Gonzaque Robert
Our founding director
Over her 35-year tenure at the Mount, Bernadette 鈥淏ernie鈥 Gonzaque Robert 鈥77 (1957-2021) served in countless leadership roles, including as director of admissions and college relations; assistant dean for the Associate in Arts program; and assistant vice president for student affairs and community engagement. She served on numerous University committees, along with overseeing the University鈥檚 Diversity Task Force, the Mount Community Assault Response Education Support team and co-chairing the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan Committee.
In her role as associate vice president for Equity, Diversity and Justice, she established the Center and launched several initiatives to foster diversity and inclusion on our campuses. Her work will continue through the Center and the University鈥檚 commitment to becoming an antiracist community.
Robert served on the board of several community organizations and initiatives, including the Archdiocese Youth Employment Programs, The Children Youth Family Collaborative Foster Care Agency, Alexandria House and The Housing Authority for the City of Los Angeles. She received recognition and awards from the YWCA; the Mayor鈥檚 Office; the U.S. departments of education and justice; the Los Angeles Police Department; and the University鈥檚 highest honor, the Carondelet Medal, in 2018.
As a student at the Mount, Robert received numerous awards and served in the first cohort of the Mount鈥檚 Women鈥檚 Leadership Program. 鈥淏ernie鈥 was a friend to all people and touched many lives with her love, kindness, deep faith and compassion.
