General Counseling Psychology (GCP)
SPECIALIZATIONThis specialization is designed for working professionals who want to advance in their career while bringing hope and positive change to their communities and organizations. The master’s in counseling psychology degree with a general specialization prepares emerging leaders with core counseling, leadership and advocacy skills to better serve a range of various communities across education, human services and non-profit settings. GCP course format
The General Counseling Psychology specialization’s evening format allows working professionals to balance life’s commitments with the pursuit of an advanced degree. Students typically take two courses (6 units) per semester. All courses are offered on weeknights, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.. The track is completed in two years and requires the completion of 36 units.
Thesis option
General Counseling Psychology students enjoy from the benefit of writing a thesis. The optional thesis gives students the opportunity to become a subject-matter expert on a certain population. It is designed to be highly relevant to one’s career goals, serving as a personal marketing tool for job interviews. The thesis also provides research preparation for those who develop an interest in proceeding to doctoral programs.
