Welcome to Los Angeles - and to Mount Saint Mary's University!

While it's exciting, we understand that choosing to continue your education a new country can also be overwhelming. Our entire Mount community is here to welcome and support you. Check out some of the resources below and reach out to international@msmu.edu if you (or your family) have any questions.

Los Angeles is not only one of the most populous cities in the world, but also one of the United States’ most ethnically diverse. The area is also served by a rapidly growing public transit system known as the Metro, with both bus and train service to many points around L.A.

Weather in Los Angeles is mild and temperate, with average temperatures in the 70-degree Fahrenheit range. As a northern hemisphere climate, our summers occur in the June to September timeframe, while winters range from December to March. It does not snow in Los Angeles.

Though Los Angeles is one of the world’s biggest and most dynamic cities, both Mount campuses offer an educationally nurturing escape from urban life. Students enjoy safe and beautiful environments in which to study, learn, socialize and grow to become globally conscious leaders.

Our Chalon campus rests high atop the Santa Monica Mountains on the west side of Los Angeles. Built in the 1930s, Chalon is home to the majority of our traditional undergraduate students. Our Doheny campus is situated in a park-like environment just south of downtown Los Angeles, and very near the University of Southern California. Comprised of a number of historic mansions, this campus is home to both undergraduate and graduate programs.

International graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to live on campus. Undergraduate students, in particular, are strongly encouraged to live on campus during their first year of attendance. Both Chalon and Doheny offer comfortable living situations that can help you integrate into our community quickly, improve your language skills, make new friends, collaborate on educational projects, and enjoy social activities with fellow students.

Living on campus also allows you to be at a walking distance from the university's library, cafeteria, and classrooms, which means you will able to have more time to study and relax. Other benefits of living on-campus include:

Utilities - Off campus housing comes with additional costs for electricity, water, internet, cable etc. With on-campus housing, you pay one bill that covers all expenses and is applied directly to your student account.

Room and Meal Options - You can choose to live in a single or a large double and also have the option of choosing a meal plan or opt out of it.

Safety - There is on-campus security coverage 24 hours a day which makes living on campus a safe and comfortable place.

Community and Friendships - Living on campus allows you to create bonds that may be harder to make living off campus.

Proximity to Places - The campus is centrally located to all that downtown Los Angeles has to offer, including L.A. Live, Olvera Street, Union Station, Little Tokyo, Koreatown, and museums.
