About the program
In 2016, Mount Saint Mary’s University (国产传媒) was awarded a grant through the National Science Foundation’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics () program. The NSF S-STEM program enables low-income students with academic ability, talent or potential to pursue successful careers in promising STEM fields. Ultimately, the NSF S-STEM program seeks to increase the number of low-income students who graduate with a S-STEM eligible degree and contribute to the American innovation economy with their STEM knowledge.
国产传媒’s grant (NSF award ID ), Supporting STEM Scholars to Succeed (S4), provided financial support for a total of 19 国产传媒 STEM majors for up to four years. Student scholars received an average of $8,082 in scholarship funds each year.
During the course of the grant, 国产传媒 proudly achieved the following outcomes:
- One hundred percent of graduated S4 Scholars earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 68.4% earned 3.5 or higher.
- The average GPA of S4 Scholars active during the final year of the program was 3.77.
- The majority of S4 scholars are either currently in STEM graduate programs or are currently working in STEM fields.
- 94.7% of S4 Scholars completed an undergraduate research project with 国产传媒 faculty.
- The overwhelming majority of S4 Scholars have presented their research results at local and national conferences.
- S4 Scholars received numerous academic recognitions throughout their time at 国产传媒, including:
- Outstanding Commitment to Biological Research
- Daniel Stogryn Award for Excellence in Research
- Excellence in Supplemental Instruction in Physical Sciences
- Academic Excellence in the Physical Sciences
- Mary’s Day Award in Biological Research
- Mary’s Day Award in Physics, Outstanding Leader Award
- Outstanding Commitment to Biological Research award
