Engaging Our Community

Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles is fully committed to engaging all members of our community in the democratic process. By providing resources, education, and programming we hope to encourage students to assume and embrace their full role as active citizens and ultimately to become “graduates who are committed to using their knowledge and skills to better themselves, their environments, and the world” (¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Mission Statement).

¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Votes is an initiative coordinated by Women's Leadership and Community Engagement and in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs and the University.

¹ú²ú´«Ã½Votes is Mount Saint Mary's University's nonpartisan initiative committed to empowering students with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to participate fully in our democracy. At the heart of our work is the Democratic Engagement Plan, a comprehensive strategy designed to increase voter registration, education, and participation across our campuses. Developed collaboratively, this plan reflects the voices and efforts of the entire Mount community including student organizations, Student Affairs departments, and the ¹ú²ú´«Ã½Votes Civics Team. Together, we foster a culture of civic engagement that ensures all students feel informed, included, and inspired to make their voices heard in every election and beyond. Here are some highlights:

  • Voter registration and ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Votes information at New Student Orientation
  • Constitution Day and National Voter Registration Day Events
  • Debate Watch Parties
  • Voter registration drives throughout the year
  • Voter education programs to provide non-partisan information on candidates, issues, and ballot measures
  • Transportation support to get students to the polls
  • Tons of resources on our social media (Follow us on Instagram )

Vote in the local Elections!

Mount students who are registering to vote in California can participate in the California Ballot Bowl! When you register to vote, make sure you click that you’re a student at the Mount so you can get counted! Students voting outside of California can go to TurboVote to register to vote.

All of us, regardless of party, should throw ourselves into that work -- the joyous work of citizenship. Not just when there's an election, not just when our own narrow interest is at stake, but over the full span of a lifetime.
