Mount Saint Mary’s University has been honored with the an award presented by Vector Solutions that recognizes higher education institutions demonstrating leadership in student safety and well-being.
The CPN Seal of Prevention acknowledges colleges and universities that take proactive measures to create safer campuses through evidence-based digital prevention education on topics such as sexual assault, alcohol and drug misuse and mental health. The Seal establishes guidelines for identifying quality prevention programs and highlights institutions that place prevention at the core of key institutional outcomes, including student success, campus climate and retention.
The Mount was recognized for its comprehensive, integrated approach to promoting student wellness. Through collaboration among the Dean of Students’ Office, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, Peer Wellness Advocates, and First-Year Experience classes, students gain awareness, knowledge and practical skills related to healthy relationships, mental health and substance use prevention. Course presentations, peer-led discussions, and online prevention modules — including sexual assault prevention, mental health first aid, hazing prevention, and substance abuse education — engage students in meaningful conversations and equip them to seek support when needed. Additionally, the University provides health prevention and wellness programs throughout the academic year, fostering a campus environment that prioritizes well-being, belonging and student success.
Linda McMudock, PhD, vice president for student affairs at Mount Saint Mary’s, emphasized the significance of the recognition: “Receiving the Campus Prevention Network Seal of Prevention is a tremendous honor. At the Mount, educating the whole person is central to fostering student well-being, belonging, and success. We strive to ensure that when students graduate, they leave with the knowledge and skills to maintain healthy habits and lifestyles that support their long-term personal and professional success.”
