Mount Saint Mary’s University has appointed Adam G. Weyhaupt, PhD, as its new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. A seasoned academic leader with a strong record of innovation and student-centered leadership, Dr. Weyhaupt joined the Mount in July 2025 to lead the University’s academic vision with creativity collaboration and purpose.
In his role, Dr. Weyhaupt will oversee all academic programs and initiatives, working closely with faculty, staff and leadership to foster academic excellence across disciplines. He will be instrumental in advancing innovative teaching practices, expanding both graduate and undergraduate programs, and cultivating a dynamic learning environment that prepares students to lead with purpose.
“Dr. Weyhaupt brings an exceptional blend of scholarly achievement, leadership, and a deep commitment to service,” said Mount Saint Mary's President Ann McElaney-Johnson, PhD. “His values align deeply with our mission, and his experience will be vital as we continue to grow our academic programs and support our students.”
Dr. Weyhaupt joins Mount Saint Mary’s from Fontbonne University, where he served as Provost and Executive Vice President following his earlier tenure as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He previously spent over a decade at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he served as a faculty member, graduate program director and department chair.
“The Mount is committed to bold moves to help us meet the needs of today’s students, and I am thrilled to be part of such a vibrant, caring community of scholars,” said Weyhaupt.
As he begins his tenure, Dr. Weyhaupt is particularly focused on ensuring the Mount’s academic structure supports long-term sustainability and relevance. This includes reviewing academic programs and evaluating how the University’s signature (M)POWER program is interwoven into every student’s experience.
“We will systematically review our academic program offerings to ensure we are meeting student demand,” he explained. “As part of that work, we will examine our academic organizational structure to ensure it is efficient and enables us to respond quickly to students' needs.”
A mathematician by training, Dr. Weyhaupt holds dual bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and computer science from Eastern Illinois University and earned his MA and PhD in mathematics from Indiana University. Throughout his academic career, he has taught a wide range of courses — from developmental mathematics to advanced graduate-level topics — while maintaining an active research agenda. His scholarly interests span from mathematical modeling of soap films and minimal surfaces to applications of voting theory in statistics.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Weyhaupt is also an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and finds deep inspiration in their mission to serve “the dear neighbor without distinction.” His community service includes longtime involvement with ScoutsBSA and Rotary International.
