Mount Saint Mary’s University has been recognized by both the Mayor of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in celebration of its 100th anniversary, marking a century of education, leadership and service to the community.
The official recognitions were presented during the University’s 100th Anniversary Homecoming Gala on October 11 at the newly opened Michael E. Michael A. Enright Wellness Pavilion on the Chalon Campus. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell presented proclamations celebrating the Mount’s mission and its far-reaching contributions to Los Angeles and beyond. The proclamations highlighted the University’s dedication to empowering generations of students to lead with purpose and confidence.
The Mayor’s proclamation praised Mount Saint Mary’s “enduring commitment to the growth and development of women through education,” emphasizing the University’s focus on leadership and service since its founding in 1925. It also recognized the Mount’s ongoing innovation and expansion of interdisciplinary programs, including the launch of the new (M)POWER initiative earlier this year. Additionally, the proclamation commended the University as one of California’s premier institutions for training health care professionals, social workers and educators.
Mayor Bass reflected on the University’s legacy of empowerment. “Mount Saint Mary’s was founded on a powerful mission to help women become all that they are capable of becoming. Today, the University has become a beacon of quality education, attracting young minds from across the globe,” she said.
Supervisor Mitchell highlighted the Mount’s pivotal role in promoting educational access, equity, and leadership development across Los Angeles County, noting the University’s lasting contributions to students and the broader community.
Mount Saint Mary’s President Ann McElaney-Johnson expressed gratitude for the recognitions. “We are deeply thankful for Mayor Bass and Supervisor Mitchell’s leadership and partnership with the University and our students. These proclamations are a testament to the Mount’s enduring impact throughout Los Angeles and beyond,” said President McElaney-Johnson.
