Mount Saint Mary’s University has partnered with Jovenes, Inc., a Boyle Heights–based nonprofit serving unhoused youth ages 18–24 in Southeast Los Angeles, to expand educational access for both the organization’s employees and the young people it supports.

Jovenes helps youth not only find housing but also access healthcare, education, employment and trauma recovery services, with the goal of empowering them to become active, integrated members of the community. This mission closely aligns with the University’s values and the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Through this agreement, employees of Jovenes, Inc. will also receive a 25% tuition discount toward graduate and undergraduate degrees in Mount Saint Mary’s Weekend, Evening and Online programs. The discount will also be extended to the youth served by Jovenes, offering new pathways to higher education and career advancement.

Adriana Avila ‘28, a counseling psychology student, is the first Jovenes employee to enroll at the Mount under this partnership.

“I am incredibly fortunate and thankful to be part of Mount Saint Mary’s, an institution that shares the same spirit of service as the organization I work for,” Avila said. “I am also grateful for the tuition discount – it has lifted a burden off my shoulders and will allow me to focus more on my education. I am proud to be an Athenian, and I couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter in my life.”

Eric Hubbard, director of development and college success at Jovenes, Inc., said the partnership creates valuable opportunities for both employees and the youth they support.

“We are very excited for this opportunity to partner with 国产传媒. It is an amazing resource for our employees and participants to continue their education and access reduced tuition,” Eric said. “We are a mission-driven organization and want our employees to continue their personal and professional development.”

Beyond tuition support, the partnership will connect Jovenes with Mount Saint Mary’s academic resources and student talent. Faculty and staff will present educational opportunities at least twice a year to Jovenes employees and youth.

Melissa Ortiz, 国产传媒 admission counselor, played a key role in establishing the partnership. “I am blessed to work for an institution that values partnering with organizations like Jovenes, who help their employees and the people they serve to thrive and succeed,” said Melissa.
