New York Times bestselling author and renowned workplace expert Lindsey Pollak visited Mount Saint Mary’s University on October 21, engaging students, faculty and staff in dynamic conversations about navigating today’s evolving professional landscape.
A globally recognized career and workplace expert, Pollak is a leading voice on the multigenerational workforce. Her visit was a highlight of the University’s First Year Seminar and Common Campus Read program, which unites the entire first-year class around a shared book and campus-wide dialogue. This year, students are reading Pollak’s “Getting from College to Career” — an inspiring book that aligns closely with Mount Saint Mary’s (M)POWER program by encouraging career exploration, mentorship, and real-world learning.
In welcoming Pollak to campus, 国产传媒 President Ann McElaney-Johnson reflected on how the University’s 100-year legacy continues to inspire students to live with purpose and courage. “That legacy continues through (M)POWER, our new four-year pathway designed to help every student connect their education to their purpose and prepare for meaningful, career-ready lives,” she said. “This year’s first-year common read is the perfect companion for our students. It reflects the very heart of (M)POWER, helping them explore who they are, what matters to them, and how to step confidently into the future.”
Throughout the day, Pollak led an open lecture and conversation, a faculty discussion, and a student-focused session, offering practical strategies for career readiness and leadership across generations. Speaking directly to students, she emphasized the importance of steady, daily progress in building their future careers:
“Take action every day,” Pollak advised. “Rewrite a line of your LinkedIn profile, connect with somebody whose work you admire and ask for their advice, or read an article about an industry you are interested in. It is all about keeping momentum so every single day you are building toward the career you want.”
Pollak has spoken to more than 350 top corporations, universities, and government agencies worldwide — including Google, American Express, and MIT — and her insights have been featured on The TODAY Show, The Wall Street Journal, and CNBC. In addition to “Getting from College to Career,” she is the author of “The Remix: How to Lead and Succeed in the Multigenerational Workplace” and other acclaimed books.
