Joy Brathwaite, MBA, MSA, recently assumed the role of vice president for Administration and Finance at Mount Saint Mary’s University, bringing two decades of financial and administrative leadership in non-profit and higher education institutions. In her role, she is responsible for overseeing the University’s finance, accounting, human resources, payroll, risk management, facilities, maintenance, campus safety and auxiliary services departments.

A fervent advocate for education, continuous individual development and community service, Joy embodies a unique blend of financial acumen and a profound commitment to the Mount's core values.

As a first-generation college student born in Barbados, Joy understands the transformative power of life-long learning, and the Mount's programs and ethos resonate with her personal journey. "The fact that Mount Saint Mary's is number one in Social Mobility is significant to me,” says Joy. 

The emphasis on service to all communities, education, and the spirit of the founders, along with the University's strategic vision, fueled her desire to contribute as a leader at Mount Saint Mary’s. “I want to work for an institution that is aware of today's social and spiritual challenges, and actively strives to address them."

Joy’s immediate priorities include ensuring that her division offers resources, guidance and support to students, faculty and staff. "The Division of Administration and Finance provides part of the foundation that supports students' thriving and succeeding at the Mount," says Joy. 

Prior to joining the Mount, Joy served as the Chief Financial Officer at The Museum of Contemporary Art, in Los Angeles, and as the vice president of finance and business at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, North Central University and Malone University. 

In addition to her position as vice president, Joy has volunteered on several regional and national boards, including Simply Youth (OH), William J. Seymour College (MD), and the Downtown Center Business Improvement District in Los Angeles. She is also a peer reviewer with the Higher Learning Commission.

Joy holds an MBA from Kent State University, an MSA from Central Michigan University and a bachelor's degree in economics and management from the University of the West Indies.
