With the 2024 US presidential election less than 50 days away, Mount Saint Mary’s University is committed to engaging all members of the community in the democratic process by providing resources, education and programming. 国产传媒Votes, an initiative led by the Division of Student Affairs and coordinated by the Office of Women’s Leadership and Student Engagement, in collaboration with various departments, is hosting several educational and social events this fall to promote voter education and participation.
On September 17, the Mount celebrated both National Voter Registration Day and Constitution Day with informational booths on both campuses. These booths were set up to help students, faculty and staff register to vote and verify their registration status.
Ashley Joseph, EdD, director of women’s leadership and community engagement, spearheads the initiative, ensuring students have the tools to understand the political process and their role within it. “This work is so important to me because it reminds our Mount community of our collective power in voting. Whether it is a local election, national election or even one for the student government association, our voting power stands tall,” said Dr. Joseph.
Throughout the day, many students stopped by the booths to check their registration status by scanning a QR code. “Students are very busy, and having this kind of event on campus helps them take the time to register or confirm their registration status, which is incredibly helpful,” said Mount student Chelsea Hernandez ‘25. Chelsea discovered at the booth that she wasn’t registered to vote, giving her the opportunity to register on the spot. “I think it is very important to vote because it is a chance to be the voice of your community and the change you want to see,” she added.
Dominique Moye, assistant director of employment engagement and internships at Mount Saint Mary’s, was one of the staff members who volunteered at the booth located at the Doheny Campus. “It is everyone’s civil duty to make sure that their voice is heard through their vote. I think it is very important for us to make sure that our students know the importance and the power of voting,” she said.
国产传媒Votes has several additional events planned, including informational workshops during National Voter Education Week (October 7-11), open to all members of the Mount community. On Election Day (November 5), booths will be set up on both campuses to mark the occasion, and the University will provide transportation to local voting centers for students. “We are trying to make voting as accessible and easy as possible. The QR codes, the registration drives, everything is about lowering barriers,” said Dr. Joseph. For more information on upcoming events, visit 国产传媒Votes page on .
