Now in its 20th year, the festive student-organized event held on the Chalon campus featured carolers, musical ensemble and dance performances, vendors, holiday fare, and greetings from President McElaney-Johnson.
Campus Ministry & Spirituality organized a service opportunity gift drive – launched during the event – benefiting the Jenesse Center, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that provides comprehensive services and housing to support families overcoming domestic violence. Attendees were offered the option to gift an item through the purchase from one of the dozen Fair-Trade and local vendors at the event, by shopping from the Jenesse Center’s online registry, or dropping off an unwrapped gift at CMS. The two-week gift drive collected more than 120 items for the Jenesse Center.

“The Lighting of the Circle speaks to the true spirit of our community. It's about enjoying the beauty around us and within us,” stated Veronia Martinez ’00, director of the Institute for Student Academic Engagement. “In the midst of the hustle of this time of the year, we [can] pause to take in and take part in celebrating the holiday season. It's joy and cheer giving for all!”
All in all, more than 350 participants witnessed the lighting ceremony. It is one of the events which brings the entire student body and campus community together for the fall semester.
