In addition to touring the Chalon Campus and enjoying fun games at The Circle, guests participated in cultural and educational activities. The José Drudis-Biada Art Gallery offered a final opportunity to visit its latest exhibit, “Mary: The Evolution of the Theotokos,” curated by artist Farrah Karapetian. This compelling showcase explored the depiction of Mary across history, offering attendees a chance to reflect on cultural and religious perspectives. In addition, Nicole Haggard, PhD, director of the Center for the Advancement of Women at Mount Saint Mary’s, presented insights from the 2024 Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California™.

Continuing a cherished tradition, the Class of 1974 was inducted into the Golden Graduate Society at their 50-year reunion during the Founders Day Mass. This heartfelt ceremony celebrated these distinguished alumnae for their enduring connection to the Mount.

“My time at Mount Saint Mary’s was life-changing. The nursing program was outstanding and prepared me for my career in nursing, enabling me to take care of patients in a holistic way,” said Mary Ann Lucia ’74, one of the alumnae inducted into the Golden Graduate Society.

During the luncheon, guests rose to give a standing ovation to Kathleen McCarthy and Michael A. Enright for their longtime and remarkable support to Mount Saint Mary’s University.

Joelle Balthazar ’16, a member of the Black Alumnae Association, warmly welcomed guests and set the tone for an afternoon of celebration.

President McElaney-Johnson, PhD, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the University's unwavering commitment to its students and the profound impact its alumnae have on the world. “When I see our alumnae out in the world, all of you making a difference in your communities, leading with integrity, and embodying the values we hold dear, I am filled with pride,” said President McElaney-Johnson.

Celebrating Outstanding Alumnae

The Mount Alumnae Association honored three distinguished alumnae with the Outstanding Alumnae Awards for their notable achievements and lasting contributions in their respective fields.

Stephanee Beggs ’20, recipient of the Rising Star Award, was recognized for her entrepreneurial achievements and dedication to the nursing community. Stephanee, a graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, gained national attention during the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing her study techniques online. Her educational platform, RNExplained Inc., grew into a multi-million dollar business, earning her a spot on Forbes’ 2023 30 Under 30 list. Beyond her business success, Stephnaee remains deeply connected to the Mount, establishing a scholarship for ABSN students and teaching pharmacology.

Sister Kieran Vaughan, CSJ, ’64, received the Service Award in recognition of her lifelong dedication to education and community service. A distinguished educator, Sister Kieran has contributed over four decades to the Mount’s teacher preparation programs, securing funding and advancing the institution’s educational mission. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, as she continues to support and inspire Mount students and alumnae.

Shelli Amber Weekes ‘84, recipient of the Professional Achievement Award, was honored for her accomplishments in both the public sector and the arts. A passionate jazz vocalist, Shelli has performed around the world and recently released her fourth album, “A Lady with a Song – Amber Weekes Celebrates Nancy Wilson.” A champion for equity and diversity, Shelli co-founded the African American Alumnae Network and remains an active supporter of the Mount, headlining events to benefit student programs.
