The Mount Saint Mary’s community proudly celebrated Thomas J. Blumenthal, current chair of the Board of Trustees, as he received the 2024 Archbishop's Award on February 24.
Tom is the president and CEO of the iconic Beverly Hills jewelry store GEARYS, which has been owned and operated by his family since 1953. He is one of the most dedicated supporters of Mount Saint Mary’s and his leadership and steadfast friendship are evident in many ways. He has traveled to Le Puy with the Mount, worked with the CSJ Institute, and generously contributed to academic programs, scholarships and wellness initiatives, among others.
Recently, he commissioned statues of Mother St. John Fontbonne for both of our campuses — a gift that will live in perpetuity. In 2022, Tom was the recipient of the Carondelet Medal, the highest honor awarded by Mount Saint Mary’s University to individuals who have advanced the University’s mission in an extraordinary manner.
“The Archbishop's Award recognizes Tom’s outstanding contributions to the larger Los Angeles community,” says Mount Saint Mary’s President Ann McElaney-Johnson, PhD. “Tom really
lives the mission of the Mount, which is to transform lives through education. He cares deeply about our students’ success, and we are so grateful for all his support throughout the years.”
“It is a joy for me to help lead the Board of Trustees at Mount Saint Mary’s and support the University’s mission and work of educating and empowering women,” says Tom.
Tom is a member of the finance council of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels and serves as a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. In addition, he is a board member of the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University, St. Joseph Center and St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo.
