On Saturday, April 1, Mount Saint Mary’s University welcomed 350 admitted undergraduate students plus their guests to campus for Admitted Students Day. This annual event, hosted at the Chalon Campus, celebrates the accomplishments of our newly admitted students while providing them with the resources and the access they need to make their final college decision. The energy and excitement from hundreds of members of the 国产传媒 community and 1,000-plus visitors was palpable.

The morning started with a welcome from President Ann McElaney-Johnson, PhD, before students and their guests broke off into sessions ranging from “Life at the Mount” from current 国产传媒 students; “Life After the Mount,” which explored the resources available to students preparing for their careers; a panel of faculty from various departments; and another covering student involvement. An admitted student who attended the event with her mom said, “I enjoyed visiting the different booths, participating in different activities, and talking with the directors of different departments. I loved the fair atmosphere, giveaways, food, and the positive and supportive environment. The student panel was excellent, and I had a lot of fun at the event!”

The day also included a “choose your own adventure” component where students and their families connected directly with departments and organizations of their choosing during the Community Fair. At tables set up across the Administration Lawn, Mount faculty, staff and students represented their respective departments in hopes of sharing their stories and experiences with our guests.

“I had a great time. I was able to not only celebrate my admission into 国产传媒 but also look at everything it has to offer on campus and ask questions. I met some amazing new people. I also spent time with my loved ones who got me through all the rough times during the college application process and celebrated this special, amazing day. Thank you, 国产传媒, for hosting us, and we will see you this fall!”

Professors from the Mount’s academic departments were available to answer prospective student questions and detail what they could expect in and out of the classroom as an 国产传媒 student. Matthew Brosamer, PhD, professor and chair of the English department says, “It was an absolutely fantastic day. So many students were there with their families, and it was a privilege to share their excitement at beginning their college journey. It made my day to see a student’s eyes light up when I told her she could minor in creative writing while completing a nursing degree. That’s the beauty of the liberal arts.”

A person who will likely become a familiar face to the day's guests who attend the Mount, DJ Mike provided his usual celebratory entertainment to the high school seniors who are nearing college decisions and high school graduations.

Also present were student organizations and other relevant departments, such as the Makerspace, and Campus Ministry and Spirituality, the Black Student Union and the Academic Resource Center. The Circle was buzzing as admitted students stopped by tables, hopped in the photo booth, grabbed swag, candy, popsicles and kettle corn and connected with their future classmates. Students who made their deposits before or at the event were celebrated at the Deposit Station with a new tradition — #MountBound pins and the ceremonial ringing of the cowbell.

“The success of Admitted Students Day surpassed all previous admission events in terms of attendance,” said Megan Poston, director of first-year admission. “However, what truly made the day a triumph were the connections our admitted students formed within the Mount community. They left the campus with a deep understanding of the significance of a Mount degree and the lifelong relationships they would build.”

While National Decision Day and the unofficial deposit deadline is May 1, students have the summer to make their final decision. The next event for deposited students is the Athenian Experience in June, an orientation-style event designed to help prepare students for their first year at the Mount.
