Niche.com has released its 2021 ratings, and Mount Saint Mary鈥檚 University received an A+ in safety. The university鈥檚 safety rating is No. 5 in the state and No. 25 nationally.

鈥淥ne contributing factor to this terrific ranking has been our on-going commitment to partnering with students,鈥 says Michael McFatridge, director of security. 鈥淲hether through education-based student programming, communication or just being approachable, I want our community to know we are here for them.鈥

Six areas make up the safety ranking:

  • campus (non-sexual) crime rate
  • local crime
  • student survey
  • residence hall violence
  • alcohol-related arrests
  • drug-related arrests

鈥淐ampus security or law enforcement can sometimes be seen as an adversarial group,鈥 says McFatridge. 鈥淎s a core function of the University, it is my priority to make sure our students, faculty and staff see these departments as partners in achieving success. The success of our security program is not directly attributed to one person or department, but through the collective efforts of all community members. We remain deeply committed to keeping this community safe.鈥
