LOS ANGELES (AUG. 24, 2018) — Each year, numerous publications rank colleges and universities in ways that gauge different measures of success. MONEY Magazine has just released its 2018 “Best Colleges” rankings, which includes a new category specifically ranking the “” nationwide. Coming in at No. 5 on that list is Mount Saint Mary’s University.
In its description of this ranking, MONEY Magazine notes that what’s truly impressive is when colleges and universities help students excel beyond expectations. “We call this a college’s value add,” the magazine noted. MONEY’s “Most Transformative College” rankings specifically take into account how well students exceed expectations when it comes to measures such as graduation rates, alum earnings and student loan repayments.
Mount Saint Mary’s knows these are key indicators. The University has long measured success in terms of graduates who are committed to using their knowledge and skills to better themselves, their environments and the world. In order to accomplish that, of course, students first need to complete their college education, achieve agency and influence for themselves, and enter their professional lives unburdened by overwhelming student debt.
“I am happy to see these rankings and thankful to see these external validations that what we do here works,” says Ann McElaney-Johnson, PhD, president of Mount Saint Mary’s. “I am even prouder, though, of the educators, leaders and scholars on our campuses who make transformation possible every day.”
“Most Transformative College” wasn’t the only honor that Mount Saint Mary’s received from MONEY. In addition to being included on the magazine’s overall list of the “Best Colleges in America,” Mount Saint Mary’s also claimed a No. 10 ranking from MONEY Magazine among all small, private colleges on the West Coast (which includes all small, private colleges in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii).
More accolades
Other recent University honors include a spot on list, as well as designation by Forbes as one of “America’s Best Value Colleges.” Also, in August, INSIGHT Into Diversity — the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education — gave Mount Saint Mary’s the 2018 “Inspiring Programs in STEM Award,” honoring the University’s innovative, cross-discipline Global Women in STEM and Policy undergraduate research training program.
