Biography

Dr. Kendra Nickerson(she/her) is the Associate Director and Training Director at Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS). I received my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in what is now known as the School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy. I completed my APA accredited internship at CSULB Counseling and Psychological Services and have been a licensed psychologist in California since 2006. My early training involved working with both children and older adults, but once I started working at university counseling centers, I knew I had found my niche and, after receiving my Ph.D., pursued roles that would allow me to work with the college-age population as well as train the next generation of doctoral psychology students.

I have been at 国产传媒 since 2007, and while a majority of my time is spent in training and supervision, I do get to work with students/clients at CPS each year. My clinical interests include identity development, trauma, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, the integration of spirituality and psychology, and multicultural psychology. My goal in both supervision and therapy is to provide an affirming therapeutic space for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, clients of color, first-generation college students and the LGBTQIA+ community.

In my work, I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from psychodynamic, interpersonal, acceptance and commitment, family systems, and cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches and interventions to create a personalized approach for each client. I see therapy as a way to create a new understanding of self and others and promote change and psychological healing.
