Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology program modality

The Applied Psychology (B.A.) degree completion program is offered fully online and is delivered primarily through synchronous (live online) courses. This structure allows students to engage in real-time learning, discussion, and connection with faculty and classmates. A limited number of courses are offered in an asynchronous format, allowing students to complete weekly coursework on their own schedule.

Synchronous classes are typically scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:00 –9:00 p.m., and additional synchronous course options may be offered during six designated weekends each semester (on select weekends).

Graduate course option (9 units)

Students also have the opportunity to enroll in up to 9 units of graduate-level coursework while completing the Applied Psychology (B.A.). These units may be applied toward the undergraduate degree and may also be eligible to apply toward the M.S. in Psychology at Mount Saint Mary's University, pending acceptance into the Master's program. Graduate-level courses follow the Master's program modality and schedule.

Please note: graduate units completed through this option are designed to align with the Master's program and do not transfer to the PsyD program.

WEOC's Applied Psychology program overview

The B.A. in Applied Psychology program is designed for students who want to understand human behavior and use that knowledge to make a real difference in the world. This program provides a strong foundation in psychology while emphasizing how psychological principles can be applied to real-life settings, including communities, workplaces, schools, and healthcare environments.

What is Applied Psychology?

Applied Psychology focuses on taking what we learn about the mind, behavior, and mental health and using it to solve real-world problems. Rather than studying psychology only from a theoretical perspective, students in this program explore how psychology can be used in practical and meaningful ways.

Applied Psychology can connect to many areas of interest, including:

  • Educational and school settings
  • Health and wellness
  • Sports and performance
  • Forensic and legal settings
  • Industrial and organizational psychology (workplace and leadership)
  • Clinical and mental health fields
  • Research that supports real-world outcomes

Applied Psychology graduates may work in a wide range of settings, including nonprofit and for-profit organizations, educational institutions, and local, state, or federal government agencies.

Why choose the B.A. in Applied Psychology?

Students who choose the Applied Psychology B.A. often enjoy the program because it is:

  • Practical and career-relevant: focuses on how psychology is used in real settings
  • Flexible and customizable: elective options allow students to explore topics that match their career goals
  • Skill-based: students strengthen communication, research, critical thinking, and cultural awareness
  • Preparation for graduate study or professional work: supports future pathways in counseling-related fields, research, education, and more
