Biography

YVETTE CORNELIA HOLZWARTH — violinist, vocalist, and composer — has extensive experience performing and recording violin in a diverse range of genres. With a strong foundation in Western art music, Yvette has expanded her musical fluency into jazz, classical Arabic, Balkan folk, Norwegian hardanger fiddle, Americana, experimental, and popular styles.

As a violinist, Yvette has enjoyed working with numerous artists— including Kamasi Washington, Van Dyke Parks, Ariana Grande, OneRepublic, Backstreet Boys, Iron & Wine, Homayoun Shajarian, among others. She has performed at Los Angeles venues, such as Walt Disney Hall, Hollywood Bowl, UCLA Royce Hall, REDCAT, Hammer Museum, Dorothy Chandler, and Zipper Hall. Internationally, she has toured extensively in Eastern Europe with renowned guitarist Miroslav Tadi膰, in the Near East with Arabic orchestra MESTO, in Guatemala with singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno, and in Japan with jazz musician Brandon Coleman. She is also a founding member of the non-traditional performer-composer collective Desert Quill Quartet and the cross-cultural chamber group Bridge to Everywhere. Residing in Los Angeles, she has recorded on numerous TV & Film scores (Disney, FOX, NBC) as well as appeared on camera in film, TV, and commercial work. She is widely sought for her ability to compose, arrange, and improvise string parts on the spot.

As a songwriter, Yvette releases original music under the moniker Yvette Cornelia. Her debut EP Open It Up (2013) was followed up by a full-length album What Lies Ahead (2018). Featuring her nine-piece ensemble, this latest album explores the cracks between chamber music, folk, experimental rock, and songwriting. Utilizing her abilities as both a vocalist and violinist, Yvette is also a frequent collaborator in theater projects (Beth Morrison Projects, Four Larks, Overtone Industries).

Raised in Northern California, Yvette is currently based in Los Angeles, California. In 2016, she received her MFA in Performance and Composition from the California Institute of the Arts, where she studied with Lorenz Gamma, Mark Menzies, and Ulrich Krieger.
