Through this program, you’ll work closely with faculty as you endeavor on exciting research projects. Our GWSTEM program invites you to participate in summer field research in locations like Peru, Argentina, Kenya, and India.  You'll also explore advanced STEM fields in a stem cell lab class taught by an instructor from Cedars-Sinai.

Cancer Biology

Explore the fundamental cellular changes that contribute to tumor initiation and progression underlying cancer development. With emphasis on key signaling pathways, tumor suppressing genes, oncogenes, and cell cycle regulators, this course integrates current advances in cancer research and examines their implications for understanding cancer biology.

BIO 151
Medical Physiology

Focusing on the intricate functions of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems, this course provides a foundational overview of human physiology. With emphasis on biophysical and biochemical mechanisms that maintain homeostasis and support life processes, you'll gain a deep understanding of how molecular interactions, membrane dynamics, signal transduction, and energy metabolism contribute to the physiological function across systems.

BIO 103
Microbiology

This course focuses on the basic principle of microbial growth and metabolism, cellular morphology and structure, taxonomy, pathogenicity, immunity, and control with emphasis on microorganisms and agents of disease and normal inhabitants of our environments. Lab will include techniques of isolation, cultivation, and identification of microorganisms, with emphasis on bacteria.
