国产传媒 uses the College Board Accuplacer Exam platform to administer the English and Math Placement Exam. The exam is an untimed, computer-based adaptive test that assesses skills in reading, writing, math (arithmetic for all majors, and arithmetic and/or quantitative reasoning, algebra, statistics, advanced algebra and functions for STEM majors), to place students at the appropriate course level for their first semester at the Mount. All new incoming undergraduate first-year students and transfer students, who haven't successfully completed college-level English or Math courses*, are required to complete the English and Math Placement Exam, following their tuition deposit commitment. (*courses completed at a regionally accredited college or university).

Students who have completed AP, CLEP, or IB Exams, may be exempt from this test requirement, please see below or visit the for more information.

For new fall students, placement exam test dates are ordinarily offered beginning in March through August and end prior to the start of the fall semester. For new spring students, placement exam test dates are offered in November through January and end prior to the start of the spring semester. Current Mount students: The Math Placement Exam may be repeated after two years. Students who were unable to take the test may sign up for exams throughout their time (enrollment) at the Mount. To sign up for the Math Placement Exam, please .

Please note: Students may not retake the English Placement Exam. Please refer to the chart below to determine if you are exempt from the English and/or Math Placement Exam. 

You may not need to complete the English or Math placement exam if:
1. You have earned a score of 3, 4 or 5 on the specified AP exams* For English Placement, you must earn a 3, 4, or 5 on the following AP Exams:
AP English Language/Composition
AP English Literature/Composition
For Math Placement, you must earn a 4 or 5 on the following AP Exams:
AP Calculus A/B
AP Calculus B/C
AP Statistics
2. You have successfully completed a college-level English and/or Math course at a regionally accredited college or university. Please refer to our Articulation Agreements or to confirm your course(s) meets college-level requirements. *Important note: Unofficial college transcripts can only be used for exam purposes. For potential Mount Credit, please submit your official college transcripts to the appropriate office.

Language Placement Exam

In addition to English and Math Placement Exams, we offer the Language Placement Exam in multiple languages. The Language Placement exam is completed through a program called Avant, and like the English and Math Exam, it is untimed and fully online. Most Avant exams will include Reading Comprehension, Contextualized Grammer, Writing and Speaking.

Any Mount student interested in pursuing a language other than English and would like to test proficiency has the option to complete the Language Placement Exam (Avant). Depending on the Language Placement Exam course placement, students can potentially satisfy/waive the LACE GE 4 Modern Language degree requirement. (The LACE general education language component is a requirement for all Bachelor of Arts degree seeking students).

We offer the Avant Language Exam in the following languages: Spanish, Japanese, French, Mandarin-Simplified, Italian, Arabic and German. If students have proficiency in a language not listed, students are encouraged to use BYU FLATS (Brigham Young University’s Foreign Language Achievement Test Service).
