The ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) Teacher Residency Program, in partnership with local Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs​), â€‹is a comprehensive one-year program designed to transform teacher preparation. This program combines exceptional academic training with hands-on clinical practice, personalized mentorship, and credential coursework to prepare the next generation of highly skilled and dedicated classroom teachers. Residents will earn a ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Preliminary Teaching Credential upon program completion.​

The program emphasizes cultivating a diverse community of effective educators focused on meeting the unique needs of students in the local community. By investing in our future teachers, we are shaping the next generation of educators to make a lasting positive impact on our school communities.

​â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹Financial Assistance​â¶Ä‹

Resident Teachers receive a $25,000 stipend, which is distributed in installments throughout the duration of the program. In return, residents agree to secure teaching employment in a public school in ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ for a minimum of four years upon obtaining their Preliminary Teaching Credential.

​​â¶Ä‹Residents may also qualify for additional financial assistance through county, state, and federal grant programs. Current and former school classified employees may be eligible for the SCCOE Classified School Employee Teacher Credential Grant Program​ and receive an additional $4,000 scholarship

​â¶Ä‹Who are the Best Candidates for this Program? 

This program is designed for individuals who are passionate about becoming credentialed teachers and who already have a bachelor’s degree. Strong candidates may include—but are not limited to—those currently working in roles such as:

  • Substitute Teachers
  • Paraprofessionals or Instructional Aides
  • Behavioral Support Specialists
  • After-School Program Coordinators
  • Youth Tutors or Mentors
  • Private school teachers

​Application Process​ Overview

The ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Clara County Office of Education’s Teacher Residency Program, in partnership with Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs), has a two-part application process.

To be admitted into the program, applicants must be accepted by both SCCOE and one of our three IHE partners. For those interested in the program, please carefully review all admission requirements, for both SCCOE and your IHE of choice.

​It is recommended that you apply to an IHE partner only after receiving contingent admittance to SCCOE Teacher Residency Program.​â¶Ä‹

Eligibility Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Foreign Equivalent by June 2026
  • Interest in pursuing a career as a credentialed classroom teacher
  • ​Ability to commit to four years of teaching service in ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ public schools upon program completion

​Annual ​Scholarships​â¶Ä‹ to Support Your Pathway from School Employee to​ Credentialed Teacher​

The program provides financial assistance to ​ current and former classified school employees completing ​bachelor degrees and/or their first teacher credential. 

​Candidates must attend one of our partner institutions of higher education (IHE):


​

³§³¦³ó´Ç±ô²¹°ù²õ³ó¾±±è​s​

  • ​â¶Ä‹ $4000 per year until funds run out or candidate obtains a Preliminary Teaching Credential
  • Candidates may apply for scholarships each year through 2028, with a maximum award of $20,000 over five years of active program enrollment.
  • May be used on tuition, fees, books, and living expenses

Eligibility Requirements

  • V​erification of current or prior employment as a classified school employee in​ a public school, public charter school, â€‹school district, or county office of education (COE)  in ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Clara County or in Alameda, Alpine, ​â¶Ä‹Contra Costa, El Dorado, Imperial, Lake, Lassen, Mono, Napa, Nevada, Plumas, San Benito, Sierra, Tulare, or Yolo counties.
  • Proof of  a cleared criminal background check
  • Completion of at least 48 college-level units or an associate degree (AA) at program entry
  • Verification of enrollment in a teacher preparation program or a bachelor's degree program with the intention to pursue a preliminary teaching credential
  • Commitment to maintaining satisfactory academic and program progress

Your Commitment

  • ​Obtain a b​â¶Ä‹ach​elor's degree (if applicable).
  • Obtain a preliminary teaching credential through one of the following pathways: PK-3, Multiple Subject, Single Subject or Special Education with or without Bilingual Authorization.
  • Complete one​ school year of classroom instruction for each year of financial assistance received.​â¶Ä‹

Applying for the Scholarship

Please review all eligibility requirements and the list of documents reguired as proof of eligibility. â€‹Follow the application inst​ructions available on the Application Portal.​

Once you have gathered the necessary documents, please start your application by creating an online profile on the Application Portal—if you do not already have one—and complete the online application.

Approval for the ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program grant scholarship is contingent upon the submission of all required documents. Award decisions will be communicated via email.​

​

Current participants in the Classified School Employee Teacher Credential Program ​are automatically invited to apply for additional funding cycles at the beginning of each academic year, in July, by email. If you are already enrolled in the program (received the scholarship for at least one year), please do not use the button below to submit a new application!​â¶Ä‹â€‹
